A foreign course and a regulated career: check the qualification pathway first

Check the qualification pathway for the profession you intend to practise before enrolling abroad. Give the regulator the exact course and award details rather than asking whether a university is generally “recognised.”

Check the qualification pathway for the profession you intend to practise before enrolling abroad. Give the regulator the exact course and award details rather than asking whether a university is generally “recognised.”

What the official guidance establishes

Your Europe explains that regulated professions vary across EU countries. Germany’s recognition guidance describes a competent authority comparing foreign qualifications with the relevant German reference occupation. Read Your Europe: regulated professions for the original scope and current instructions.

Start with the intended work

Record the profession, protected title if relevant, activities and jurisdiction where you want to practise. Distinguish that goal from simply obtaining an academic award. The same course description may leave a practical licensing question unanswered.

Prepare a course-to-regulator enquiry

Supply the awarding body, award title, campus, duration, delivery mode and available course or placement outline. Ask the regulator which official assessment or recognition process applies to that qualification. Keep the provider’s recruitment claim in a separate column from the regulator’s response.

Record the unresolved training gap

If an authority identifies further assessment, practice or training, record its exact instruction and the source. Ask the institution what it actually provides; do not assume an optional placement satisfies a professional requirement. Use the resulting map to compare courses before committing funds.

Your working sheet

This is an optional IMMIGEUROPE planning worksheet, not an official application form or a new document requirement.

Worked planning example

A fictional student chooses a healthcare course because its title resembles a profession at home. Before paying, they ask the intended workplace’s regulator about the precise award and training structure. They keep admission and permission to practise as separate outcomes.

Use the relevant regulator’s current instructions for the final decision. Keep the next action in the moving planner and use the guide library for the next part of your move.
