Check both the institution and the exact qualification before deciding that an Anabin search has answered your Germany degree question. A familiar university name alone is not a complete evidence file.
Academic comparability and professional recognition do different jobs
The official guidance explains two important Anabin entries: the institution and the degree. It describes using positive database results as comparability evidence and a ZAB Statement of Comparability as an individual assessment route. Academic comparability for immigration and professional recognition are different questions. Read Make it in Germany: Evaluation of foreign academic degrees.
Your working sheet
The following is an editorial organisation tool, not an official application checklist. Copy the rows that help and fill them with your own verified records.
| Check | What to record |
|---|---|
| Institution entry | Copy the exact institution name country and database result |
| Award entry | Record the degree title and the matching evaluation rather than a similarly named award |
| Recipient and purpose | Write which residence route employer or professional authority needs the result |
A practical example
Imagine that the institution is found but the specific award is unclear. Record that as an unresolved award question, not a positive match. The useful enquiry to ZAB or the visa authority includes the original qualification title, institution and intended purpose. It does not ask them to confirm a paraphrased qualification selected because it looks similar.
Before the next step
Use the official page's Anabin instructions and ZAB link. Keep database printouts and any individual assessment with the original degree. For a regulated occupation, research the competent professional-recognition authority separately before treating comparability as permission to practise.
