Give each family member a separate purpose-of-stay row for South Africa. The principal applicant's work or study plan should not silently become permission for everyone else's employment, schooling or long-term stay.
Record the principal applicant's proposed route
DHA's visa guidance identifies family-accompanying purposes and distinguishes them from work and study categories. It also includes relationship and child-related evidence in the relevant instructions. The actual purpose and family situation should determine which detailed route is researched. Read South African DHA: Types of visas family and accompanying purposes.
Your working sheet
The following is an editorial organisation tool, not an official application checklist. Copy the rows that help and fill them with your own verified records.
| Check | What to record |
|---|---|
| Principal record | Name the main applicant's actual route and status evidence |
| Family purpose | Record each person's relationship age location and planned activity |
| Evidence question | Find the applicable civil-record and route instructions without assuming the whole family uses one form |
A practical example
For example, a spouse intends to accompany a worker but also hopes to take a local job. The household worksheet should keep accompaniment and the proposed employment as different questions. The spouse should not mark the work task complete when the principal worker receives an offer.
Before the next step
Use the current DHA category information and the relevant mission's instructions. Ask about unclear accompanying, child-study or work questions before booking. Keep genuine relationship and custody records connected to the correct person, and seek qualified advice where a family arrangement does not fit clearly.
