Compare a written relocation package with the timing of the actual move. Record what is covered, any cap, payment method and repayment condition instead of treating the headline benefit as cash in hand.

What the official guidance establishes

Make it in Germany’s employment-contract guidance highlights written employment terms such as start date, pay, working time and other conditions. A relocation promise should likewise be checked against the actual documents, not inferred from a recruitment conversation. Read Make it in Germany: employment contracts for the original scope and current instructions.

List benefits one at a time

Use separate rows for travel, shipping, temporary housing, document support and any family assistance actually offered. Copy the condition and maximum from the written policy. Mark a verbal promise as needing confirmation instead of treating it as a contractual term.

Compare payment with cash needs

Distinguish direct employer payment, an advance and reimbursement after receipts. Put each alongside the date you must pay the provider. Ask what evidence the employer requires and whether tax or payroll treatment needs professional clarification; do not assume the advertised benefit equals the net amount received.

Read the exit and delay scenarios

Record any repayment, failed-start, cancellation or early-departure clause. Ask HR how it applies to a delayed immigration step or changed start date. Keep the answer attached to the offer and seek appropriate contract advice for an unclear obligation.

Worked planning example

A fictional package reimburses travel after the employee starts. The household’s cash-flow sheet still includes the upfront ticket payment. They ask about a delayed start and the reimbursement evidence before assuming the benefit funds the journey.

Clarify the largest cash gap before accepting an expensive linked commitment. Keep the next action in the moving planner and use the guide library for the next part of your move.
