UK sponsor register: check the employer behind a job offer

Match a job offer's employing entity with the official register, then ask the employer about the actual role and route. Start with the full legal name on the offer rather than a recruiter brand or a trading name alone.

Match a job offer's employing entity with the official register, then ask the employer about the actual role and route. Start with the full legal name on the offer rather than a recruiter brand or a trading name alone.

Read the employer's exact legal name

The worker sponsor register lists organisations licensed for Worker and Temporary Worker immigration routes. GOV.UK publishes updates to the register. The register describes the licensed organisation; it is not a directory confirming that every advertised role has sponsorship or that the reader qualifies for a visa. Read GOV.UK: Register of licensed sponsors workers.

Your working sheet

The following is an editorial organisation tool, not an official application checklist. Copy the rows that help and fill them with your own verified records.

CheckWhat to record
Employer identityCompare legal name address and contact details across the offer and independent employer channel
Register resultRecord the organisation route and source date
Unresolved offerAsk who will sponsor the actual job and provide the relevant employment records

A practical example

A recruiter might advertise a role under a group brand while the contract names a subsidiary. A matching group name is a reason to clarify the legal employer, not a reason to assume the subsidiary is licensed. Contact the employer independently and ask which registered entity will issue the employment documents.

Before the next step

Use the register from GOV.UK and keep the dated result with the offer. Investigate route requirements separately. If names or contacts conflict, resolve that before paying a recruiter, sharing extensive identity documents or making travel commitments.
