For Anmeldung, prepare the file for the municipality where you actually live. Address registration and your residence-permission research belong in the same arrival calendar, but they are separate administrative tasks.
Address registration and immigration permission are separate
Berlin's official Welcome Centre identifies the Bürgeramt as the address-registration authority and describes online and appointment routes. Its guidance explains that registration is relevant to later administrative tasks. It is local Berlin guidance; another municipality's appointment and document instructions must be checked separately. Read Berlin Welcome Centre: Anmeldung.
Your working sheet
The following is an editorial organisation tool, not an official application checklist. Copy the rows that help and fill them with your own verified records.
| Check | What to record |
|---|---|
| Real address | Record the full address move-in date and municipality |
| Housing evidence | Ask about the required landlord confirmation and the household members being registered |
| Appointment pack | Keep the municipal instructions identity records booking details and any requested forms together |
A practical example
A newcomer planning to settle in Berlin should use Berlin's process. If the housing arrangement changes to another city, the old appointment checklist should be revisited. A useful message to the new office states the real housing arrangement and asks what confirmation is accepted, rather than assuming a booking receipt or rental advertisement is enough.
Before the next step
Find the current municipal deadlines and required evidence before booking. Store the registration result securely and use it for later services only where that recipient requests it. Do not treat successful address registration as an answer to an unresolved immigration-status question.
