Find the nominated occupation and relevant assessing authority before ordering an Australian assessment. An assessment's purpose and the visa stream matter as much as the broad profession name.

Start with the intended occupation and visa research

Home Affairs explains that skills assessments are issued by the relevant skills-assessing authorities. The skilled-occupation information identifies the authority for an occupation, and each authority has its own process, timeframe and charges. Whether an assessment is required depends on the visa and stream. Read Australian Home Affairs: Skills assessment.

Your working sheet

The following is an editorial organisation tool, not an official application checklist. Copy the rows that help and fill them with your own verified records.

CheckWhat to record
Intended useRecord the visa subclass and stream being researched
AuthorityMatch the nominated occupation to the official assessing authority
EvidenceRead that authority's current qualification work-record and result instructions

A practical example

Imagine an applicant already has a qualification assessment produced for a different purpose. Their next action is to ask whether the new visa stream accepts that exact assessment. A report with a positive result should not be treated as interchangeable solely because it concerns the same profession.

Before the next step

Read both the Home Affairs route instructions and the named authority's process. Ask the authority about unclear qualification or work evidence before paying. Keep the result's date, purpose and any validity information with the intended application record.
