Before using a CAS, compare the institution's information with your actual passport and intended course. Keep the academic offer and the immigration reference together so a change can be raised with the institution clearly.
Understand the CAS reference and the institution's role
GOV.UK describes the CAS as a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies reference supplied by the education provider. A CAS is needed before applying for the Student visa, and its reference is entered on the application. The official course guidance also distinguishes eligible courses and licensed student sponsors. Read GOV.UK: Student visa your course.
Your working sheet
The following is an editorial organisation tool, not an official application checklist. Copy the rows that help and fill them with your own verified records.
| Check | What to record |
|---|---|
| Identity | Compare name and identity details with the passport |
| Course | Check the award institution course dates and any recorded fee or funding information |
| Mismatch report | List the inaccurate field the correct information and the supporting record for the school |
A practical example
For example, a student accepts a deferral after receiving the CAS information. They should ask the sponsor how the change affects that reference and the application. Replacing a date only in a personal spreadsheet does not show that the institution's immigration record changed.
Before the next step
Raise discrepancies through the institution's official international-student contact. Read GOV.UK's current course and application-timing instructions before submitting. Use the broader UK study-planning guide for the remaining course, funding and moving questions.
