Family applications moving at different speeds: build a dependency calendar

Give each family member a separate application and dependency row when decisions arrive at different times. Plan household commitments from actual records, not from the assumption that one approval covers everyone.

Give each family member a separate application and dependency row when decisions arrive at different times. Plan household commitments from actual records, not from the assumption that one approval covers everyone.

What the official guidance establishes

UK Student family guidance provides separate application information for joining partners and children. This is one official example of why a principal student’s file and family-member steps need distinct tracking. Read GOV.UK: Student visa family members for the original scope and current instructions.

Make a person-by-person calendar

Record each person’s submitted route, current document, request and decision status. Keep references private but easy for the responsible adult to find. Use actual dates from documents, marking a forecast or hoped-for journey separately.

Map dependencies explicitly

For a civil record, sponsor document or travel arrangement needed by more than one person, identify who holds it and which task depends on it. Record the question the authority has actually asked. Do not interpret silence or another household member’s progress as a result for the outstanding case.

Prepare two household scenarios

Write a together-arrival plan and a staged-arrival plan using the decisions actually available. Compare housing, schooling, care and cash needs. Keep non-refundable commitments conditional where possible and use the authority’s process for a genuine deadline or document problem.

Your working sheet

This is an optional IMMIGEUROPE planning worksheet, not an official application form or a new document requirement.

RecordWhat to enter
PersonActual route and current record
Case stageSubmitted, requested information or decision received
DependencyDocument or event needed from another person
ScenarioTogether arrival or staged arrival task

Worked planning example

A fictional worker has a decision while the partner has an outstanding document request. The family calendar retains both statuses and creates a staged-arrival scenario. It does not mark the partner approved because both files were prepared together.

Review the plan when a real message or decision changes a dependency. Keep the next action in the moving planner and use the guide library for the next part of your move.
