Prepare a Japan Dependent enquiry with separate sponsor, relationship and intended-activity records. Research each family member’s position rather than treating the principal applicant’s work or study file as a household approval.

What the official guidance establishes

The Foreign Ministry publishes a separate Dependent visa checklist. Embassy guidance says a person holding Dependent status who wishes to work needs outside-activities permission from Japanese immigration authorities. Read Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Dependent visa for the original scope and current instructions.

Describe the real family relationship

Record the exact relationship, the sponsor’s actual status and the civil documents available. Keep original names and dates visible in your private index. When recognition of a relationship is uncertain, ask a case-specific question before purchasing translations or relying on a route label.

Keep support evidence traceable

If support records are requested, identify whose record it is, what period it covers and what it shows. A promise to help financially should remain labelled as a promise until the requested evidence exists. Use the responsible mission’s instructions for your nationality and residence.

Make separate activity questions

For the joining person, list intended study, work or other activities as separate questions. Keep a school enquiry or employment proposal outside the visa checklist until the applicable instructions are confirmed. Do not turn the sponsor’s employment terms into the dependent’s work permission.

Your working sheet

Worked planning example

A fictional worker’s spouse intends to seek a part-time role after arrival. The family prepares the relationship file and a separate permission enquiry. They do not describe the sponsor’s job offer as authority for the spouse to start work.

Keep the principal and family-member documents connected while tracking their decisions separately. Keep the next action in the moving planner and use the guide library for the next part of your move.
