Confirm the purpose before buying an IQA. The immigration recipient, professional regulator, employer or institution may be asking different qualification questions.
Name the assessment's intended recipient
NZQA describes the International Qualification Assessment as an evaluation of an overseas qualification against New Zealand's qualifications framework. Its guidance distinguishes assessment purposes and directs people to check what the recipient needs. An evaluation from another country is not automatically an NZQA evaluation. Read NZQA: Evaluating overseas qualifications.
Your working sheet
The following is an editorial organisation tool, not an official application checklist. Copy the rows that help and fill them with your own verified records.
| Check | What to record |
|---|---|
| Purpose | Write who will receive the evaluation and why |
| Qualification | Record the exact award institution country and original study evidence |
| Assessment | Check the relevant NZQA service and any route-specific instructions |
A practical example
Imagine a teacher has a report used for professional registration in another country. Before ordering or reusing it, their worksheet should identify the New Zealand recipient and the intended use. A report proving recognition elsewhere does not answer how NZQA or the receiving regulator will treat the qualification.
Before the next step
Read NZQA's current assessment categories and document instructions. Confirm the chosen service with the recipient where unclear. Keep immigration evidence, professional registration and employment or salary assessment as distinct uses even when they begin with the same qualification.
