Pension and social-security records before working abroad

Collect contribution and employment records before researching social-security coverage across countries. Name each system and the real work arrangement, then ask the responsible institutions whether coordination or an agreement is relevant. Do not treat a pension balance, an immigration permit and future entitlement as interchangeable records.

Coordination does not make every benefit identical

Your Europe explains that EU countries organise their own benefits and social-security rules, while EU coordination determines which country’s system covers a cross-border situation. It says benefits can differ and links to national authorities and relevant forms. These EU arrangements must not be assumed to govern an unrelated country pair. Build a country-and-period record

List genuine contributions and employment periods, including any self-employment or assignment. Ask the institutions which documents they need and how to obtain a statement. Keep a question about continuing contributions separate from a question about claiming a future pension or another benefit.

A finite assignment and a new local job can differ

Illustrative situation: an employer describes work abroad as temporary, while the paperwork proposes a new contract with a local entity. Give both documents to the relevant institution or qualified adviser. Do not assume the company’s informal label determines which system applies or that all contributions can simply be transferred as cash.

Keep the answer tied to the arrangement

Retain official certificates, contribution statements and the scope of any institutional response. Revisit the question if the employer, assignment duration or country changes. The worksheet is for collecting facts and routing enquiries; it does not determine benefit eligibility, calculate an entitlement or promise that records from different systems will be combined.
