Read the complete permission record and translate its conditions into a short list of practical questions. Separate the right to remain, permitted work, study, travel and reporting. Where wording is unclear, obtain an answer from the responsible authority or a qualified adviser before relying on your own interpretation.

A status record can show activity conditions

The UK’s eVisa service allows users to view their immigration status and use share codes to prove it to others. Its guidance covers access to the digital record and proving rights such as work or renting. This is a UK service; the form of evidence and permitted activities must be checked for the actual destination and route. UK Government: View your eVisa and get a share code.

Make a conditions-to-actions sheet

Copy the relevant wording accurately into a private file, keeping the official explanation beside it. Do not shorten a complex restriction into a reassuring phrase. The preparation below helps frame enquiries; it does not interpret a condition or grant permission for a proposed activity.

Use the real activity in the question

Illustrative situation: a person wants to accept freelance weekend assignments while holding an employer-linked status. A broad question such as ‘Can I work?’ may miss the distinction. Describe the freelance duties, employer relationship and timing to the appropriate source without sending unnecessary private information. Keep the reply with the status record rather than relying on a general account of another permit.

Resolve contradictions explicitly

If an employer’s expectation conflicts with the permission wording, preserve both records and seek clarification before the activity starts. Ask how to correct an official record if it contains an error. An employer, school or social-media group cannot expand the conditions shown in the authority’s record merely by agreeing that the work is convenient.
