Assess a seasonal-work offer as a complete package: genuine job, contract, accommodation, deductions, transport and return arrangements. Verify the official route and recruiter before paying or travelling.

What the official guidance establishes

The US Department of Labor’s migrant-worker recruitment guidance provides worker-rights information about recruitment fees. ILO fair-recruitment principles also address fees and related costs; national enforcement rules must be checked for the actual destination. Read US Department of Labor: migrant worker recruitment for the original scope and current instructions.

Verify who is offering the work

Use independently located employer and official-route contacts to check the employer, recruiter and job. Record the real worksite and contracting entity. Do not treat an agent’s social-media page or a photograph of another worker’s permit as verification of your offer.

Read work and housing terms together

List the written pay basis, hours, deductions, accommodation charge and transport arrangement. Ask who controls the housing contract and what happens if work ends early. Keep any cost not stated in the contract as an unanswered question rather than assuming it is included.

Prepare practical support and return details

Keep your own copies of the contract and identity records and identify the official worker-support channel in the destination. Record emergency contacts, the proposed return arrangement and questions about access to personal documents. Seek help from the responsible worker-protection service if material terms or conduct cause concern.

Worked planning example

A fictional seasonal offer quotes pay but gives no written housing cost. The comparison leaves the net budget unanswered and requests the accommodation and deduction terms. The worker does not count the headline amount as available household income.
