Prepare a biometrics appointment from the instruction issued for the current application. Confirm the authorised collection location, identity documents and access arrangements before travelling.

What the official guidance establishes

IRCC’s biometrics guidance says the current application’s biometric instruction letter and a valid passport are needed for the usual appointment, with specified exceptions for certain people without passports. Read IRCC: giving biometrics for the original scope and current instructions.

Connect the appointment to the case

Keep the instruction letter, current application reference and booking confirmation together. Read the collection-site directions and the instructions applicable to the person attending. Do not use a letter from an earlier case because the name is the same.

Plan the visit practically

Record the address, appointment time, travel route and any permitted companion or accessibility arrangement to confirm. Ask the authorised centre about an access need through its official channel. Separate the immigration biometrics task from a fingerprint request for a police certificate.

Retain the completion record

Keep any attendance or collection confirmation supplied and the instructions for what happens next. If a genuine obstacle prevents attendance, use the authority’s stated process and retain evidence of the problem. Do not record a booked visit as completed collection.

Worked planning example

A fictional applicant finds two biometrics letters from different applications. They identify the current case before booking and keep the earlier letter outside the appointment pack. The calendar links to the correct instruction and confirmation.

Use the applicable identity exception only when the official guidance covers the actual situation. Keep the next action in the moving planner and use the guide library for the next part of your move.
