Before changing or pausing a course abroad, coordinate the institution, funder and immigration questions. Define the proposed change precisely and obtain the relevant answers before withdrawing.

What the official guidance establishes

UK Appendix Student contains conditions on permitted study and academic progression, including specific course-change provisions. An institution’s academic permission alone does not answer every UK immigration condition. Read UK Immigration Rules: Appendix Student for the original scope and current instructions.

Describe the proposed change

Write the current course, proposed course or pause, institution, level, location and dates. Keep transfer, deferral, leave and withdrawal as different proposals. State whether you have already acted so the advisers are working from the real situation.

Create a three-party question list

Ask the institution about academic, reporting and enrolment consequences; ask the funder about its actual continuation terms; ask the responsible immigration service about permission consequences. Keep each reply with the facts supplied. Do not treat one organisation’s approval as a reply on behalf of the others.

Coordinate the sequence

Map which confirmation must precede the next action, including new documents or a revised course date where instructed. Record tuition and accommodation notice deadlines separately. If the situation is urgent or unclear, seek appropriate case-specific advice rather than guessing a lawful sequence.

Your working sheet

This is an optional IMMIGEUROPE planning worksheet, not an official application form or a new document requirement.

Worked planning example

A fictional student wants to pause for a term. The institution agrees academically, but the student still checks the funder and immigration consequences before withdrawing from classes. The tracker records each answer separately.
