Record genuine activities during employment gaps instead of inventing work continuity. Use the actual immigration form’s definition of personal history and its requested dates.
What the official guidance establishes
For Canada’s IMM 5669, personal history includes activities such as employment, unemployment and education, and the instructions say not to leave time gaps. Read IRCC: Schedule A background and personal history for the original scope and current instructions.
Separate employment from the rest of life
Make an employment list from genuine contracts, letters or other records. Then add actual non-employment activities for the periods the form asks about. Use neutral factual descriptions; caring for family, studying or looking for work should not be relabelled as a job you did not hold.
Distinguish known and approximate dates
Track which dates are supported by a record and which still need clarification. Compare the timeline with the CV and any earlier application, noting differences that need explanation. Keep a correction log instead of changing old supporting documents.
Prepare a concise explanation when requested
Answer the form’s question and use its instructions for additional information. Write the event, period and relevant fact clearly. Avoid adding a persuasive story or diagnosis of what an officer will think; the purpose is accurate history, not a prediction of approval.
Your working sheet
This is an optional IMMIGEUROPE planning worksheet, not an official application form or a new document requirement.
| Record | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Period | Dates requested by the actual form |
| Actual activity | Work, study, care, unemployment or other genuine activity |
| Source | Supporting record or clarification needed |
| Explanation | Factual note if requested |
Worked planning example
A fictional worker has a break between two employers while caring for a relative. The worksheet records the real activity and the supported dates. It does not extend the first employment or create self-employment to make the CV look uninterrupted.
Use the final chronology consistently and preserve the evidence behind corrections. Keep the next action in the moving planner and use the guide library for the next part of your move.
