Prepare a temporary journey from Japan by checking the re-entry process that applies to your actual resident stay. Compare the planned return with the relevant permission and document dates before booking.

What the official guidance establishes

The Japanese Embassy describes re-entry permission as a process for foreign residents leaving Japan temporarily and returning, and its guidance distinguishes re-entry arrangements from obtaining a new visa as a new entrant. Read Embassy of Japan in the UK: visa and re-entry questions for the original scope and current instructions.

Create one departure-and-return card

Write the intended departure date, return date, passport validity, residence-record details and the re-entry arrangement you are researching. Copy conditions exactly from the official instructions. Treat a missing or ambiguous condition as a question, not an assumed extension.

Ask about changes before travel

If a renewal is pending, a passport has changed or a residence card is unavailable, prepare those facts for the responsible immigration office. Ask what documents and steps apply before leaving. Keep the response with the trip plan so another household member can understand the decision.

Keep an evidence pack for the actual journey

Prepare the originals or records required by the applicable instructions and retain a private copy separately. Record which documents the carrier asks to see. This travel pack should reflect the current situation rather than a previous trip’s boarding experience.

Your working sheet

This is an optional IMMIGEUROPE planning worksheet, not an official application form or a new document requirement.

Worked planning example

A fictional resident plans to return after a date shown on an existing record. Instead of assuming a return ticket answers the issue, they postpone non-refundable commitments and ask the authority how the current process applies to their dates.

Resolve the re-entry question before departure; a planning card cannot extend an official permission. Keep the next action in the moving planner and use the guide library for the next part of your move.
