Separate the journey document from the residence-document collection task. Follow the actual decision and the relevant Dutch representation's instructions instead of assuming a residence approval means every entry and collection step is finished.
Understand the MVV and residence permit roles
IND describes the MVV as an entry visa placed in a passport, used to travel to the Netherlands and collect a residence permit. Whether it is required depends on the situation, including nationality. The guidance describes the MVV and residence-permit application relationship. Read IND: Provisional residence permit MVV.
Your working sheet
The following is an editorial organisation tool, not an official application checklist. Copy the rows that help and fill them with your own verified records.
| Check | What to record |
|---|---|
| Decision | Record the applicant case and instructions in the actual decision |
| Entry | Check the MVV requirement passport details and representation's appointment process |
| Collection | Find the IND collection instructions and keep them separate from the visa-sticker task |
A practical example
An applicant might receive a positive residence decision while still outside the Netherlands. Their task chain should show any required MVV appointment, travel preparation and later permit collection as different actions. Marking the whole chain complete at the decision stage would hide the remaining dependencies.
Before the next step
Use IND's live MVV guidance and the Dutch representation identified for the case. Read the actual validity and collection information rather than borrowing dates from another person's letter. Add municipal registration as a separate arrival task.
