Review the proposed sponsorship record against the real written job offer before relying on it. A CoS reference belongs to a particular sponsored-work process; it is not a general certificate that can be reused for any job.
Understand what a CoS records
GOV.UK explains that a Skilled Worker applicant needs an offer from an approved employer. The Certificate of Sponsorship is an electronic record with a reference number used in the visa application. The guidance also sets out occupation and salary rules for the job. Read GOV.UK: Skilled Worker visa your job.
Your working sheet
The following is an editorial organisation tool, not an official application checklist. Copy the rows that help and fill them with your own verified records.
| Check | What to record |
|---|---|
| Identity and employer | Compare passport identity and the legal employer with the relevant records |
| Role | Compare the occupation duties workplace remuneration and employment dates |
| Correction enquiry | Describe each mismatch factually and ask the sponsor how it should be corrected |
A practical example
Suppose the offer describes one workplace but the sponsorship information refers to another location. The useful next step is a written correction question to the sponsor. Guessing which version the caseworker will prefer leaves the underlying record inconsistent.
Before the next step
Read the current job requirements for the actual occupation and any relevant exception. Keep salary research dated and attached to the official rule rather than an old list. Resolve material differences through the employer before entering the reference into an application.
