Brazil CRNM registration: prepare for the Federal Police stage

Prepare the Federal Police registration stage from the Brazilian permission you actually hold. Keep the residence decision, registration request, appointment and card follow-up as separate entries in your moving file.

Begin CRNM registration by matching the permission you hold to the correct Federal Police registration category. Then keep the request, appointment, attendance and card follow-up as separate tasks. The worksheet below helps organise that handover; it does not replace the document list for your category.

Identify your registration basis

The Brazil government registration service covers, among others, holders of temporary visas and people with residence authorisation published in the Diário Oficial da União. Registration includes personal and biometric identification and results in an RNM number and CRNM card.

The Federal Police document selector separates the registration categories. For the two routes discussed here, use either the temporary-visa document instructions or the instructions for registration based on publication in the Diário Oficial da União. These are different entry points; do not assume a checklist from one route completes the other.

If the identifiers are confusing, use our RNM, CRNM and CPF explainer to frame the next service question. Keep a separate CPF tax-registration enquiry rather than treating every request for a number as a CRNM task.

Follow the service stages in order

The government service sets out four stages: request registration, arrange an appointment, attend the Federal Police unit, and receive the CRNM. Use the current service page to reach its form and scheduling channels. It also supplies a card-status channel and explains that collection arrangements depend on the unit.

In your own tracker, put the proof of each completed stage beside the next unresolved action. For example, keep an application reference beside the appointment record and a separate note for collection follow-up. Do not mark a later stage complete just because you have evidence of an earlier one.

The temporary-visa instructions identify the electronic request, travel/identity record and original visa form among the requested evidence. They also explain that additional documents can depend on the case. Use the full category page for its payment, translation and other applicable instructions; this summary is not a complete submission list.

Make a one-page appointment index

Use this optional editorial index to make the official checklist easier to work through. Keep personal reference numbers in your private file. Before saving copies for an online request, check scan completeness and readability.

A worked planning example

Fictional example: Mateo has saved a screenshot of a residence result but has not identified the complete decision record. He begins with the Federal Police category selector and writes down which instruction he is trying to satisfy. His next task is to locate the complete record and resolve the registration basis, rather than assembling documents copied from a friend with a temporary visa.

Mateo then gives each item in the applicable checklist a status and an owner. The example is about organising an enquiry, not determining his eligibility or calculating his deadline. Use the relevant official service for the registration deadline and contact the responsible unit if your basis or local attendance instructions are unclear. Sources checked on 18 October 2026.
